4 Tips to Help You Reach Your Daily Hydration Targets

Chances are you’re not reaching your daily hydration targets and you’re not alone. Many of us don’t but there are ways you can help boost your fluid intake.

Drinking the right amount of water each day helps to prevent dehydration as well as keep you alert. If you don’t drink enough fluid, then you’re likely to feel groggy, have headaches, and even experience bad moods. So, it’s super important to get your daily water intake right.

Here are our 4 favourite tips.

  1. Know your baseline hydration levels

You might be surprised to learn how much you do really drink in a day. That surprise can be good or bad but knowing your hydration baseline level will help you to identify whether you need to increase or maybe decrease the amount you drink.

To do this, simply keep track of how much you drink. You can write down how much you drink in millilitres or if you’ve already invested in a Hydratem8 tracker bottle, use that. If you’re not refilling your bottle during the day, then instantly you know you need to up your game.

  1. Drink water when you wake up and before a meal

If you find it difficult to drink throughout the day perhaps because of a busy schedule, try to rehydrate first thing in the morning. When you wake up, aim to drink 2 glasses of water to get your hydration habits off to a great start. Then, drink a glass of water before every meal or snack.

Drinking before a meal can improve digestion and even help you to lose weight. That’s because sometimes when you think you’re hungry, you are thirsty, and that can lead to taking on unnecessary calories.

  1. Experiment

If you struggle to drink plain water, try experimenting with it. Try changing the temperature of the water you drink. For example, try it:

  • with ice
  • without ice
  • at room temperature
  • at fridge temperature

Just changing the temperature of your water can make it more palatable. If you still can’t manage plain water or simply fancy a change, try experimenting with different flavours. You can add fresh fruit, vegetables like cucumber, or even herbs to try to make the taste of plain water more favourable.
