Small Diet Changes That Will Give You Big Results

The path to reaching your goal weight can be a long and arduous one, but it is reassuring to know that just a few small diet changes can make a huge difference to your progress. Here we share simple tips that can help move the scales in your favour and improve your overall health.

Don’t Skip Breakfast

It really is the most important meal of the day and gives your metabolism the kick-start it needs to get moving, while fuelling you for whatever your morning has in store. Choose protein-rich options with plenty of fruit that keep you full until lunchtime and stop you reaching for the snack drawer.

Don’t Eat in the Dark

Brighter, well-lit spaces do something to your brain that makes you feel more awake and alert. In turn, this has the affect of encouraging us to eat more mindfully. You are more likely to be aware of what you are putting in your body and notice that you are full-up sooner, so that you don’t waste calories on foods you don’t need.

Adjust the Size of Your Plate

It is human nature to want to fill the plate and it is incredibly tempting to finish every last morsel, even when you are full. So, it makes sense to choose smaller plates for your meals. You will be unable to fit as much food on and feel less guilty about eating it all up. If you are still genuinely hungry afterwards, you can always get more, but chances are, you’ll feel just as satisfied and less bloated!

Keep the Fruit Bowl in Sight

When that inevitable desire to snack hits, you are more likely to reach for healthy foods like fruits if they are in plain sight. If you fruit bowl is hidden away, you will be more tempted by crisps, chocolates and other unhealthy options. With that same logic, keep those foods behind cupboard doors and you will be less likely to grab them mindlessly as you walk by.

Don’t Impose Restrictions

Having said that, a little of what you fancy does you good. As soon as you tell yourself you can’t have the ‘naughty’ foods, it will be all you crave. Allow yourself a sweet treat now and then, but then get straight back on the healthy eating bandwagon so that you continue to see the results you want.

Keep a Bottle of Water to Hand

Sometimes, when you think you feel hungry, it is actually your body’s way of telling you that you need more water. If you always have a water bottle on your desk or close by, you can stay hydrated while reducing the amount you snack. Our HydrateM8 water bottles were literally made for this very purpose!

Prepare Your Day

If you make a plan of what you are going to eat each day and prep your meals accordingly, you will be more likely to stick to healthy options. It is when we are undecided, with few appealing options to hand, that we start to reach for high-calorie, low-nutrient foods. A little forward thinking can be a great thing!

Sometimes it is the smaller things that make the biggest difference, as they are easy to implement and add up to success. We hope you find these tips useful!
