Raising Awareness about Global Recycling Day

As well as being home to humans and wildlife, the Earth also harbours the natural resources which enable us to function as well as all the waste we produce. But the waste we generate is a major problem, particularly disposable plastics. Therefore, the aim of Global Recycling Day is to raise awareness about recycling which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions and can reduce the damage to the planet.

How important is recycling?

Recycling is believed by many to be key to preserving the future of the planet. The turn from 2019 to 2020 has shown us the damage that climate change is having on Earth. The Australian bushfires, the hurricanes in the Caribbean and the impressive storms in the UK are all signs that the weather is changing, and for the worse.

Plus, we are also facing the melting of polar ice caps as the temperature of the Earth rises. This has a knock-on effect on the livelihoods of those who live in the affected areas but also has consequences for the economy. Recycling is an important way to help the environment because waste in landfill sites releases harmful gases into the atmosphere, contributing to pollution.

Equally, finding suitable places for landfill sites often means deforestation and destroying the habitats of wildlife. That’s mainly because humans don’t want landfill sites near to where they live. Deforestation means cutting down trees which remove carbon dioxide from the air. So, the fewer trees there are, the higher the concentration of carbon dioxide in the air.

What’s that got to do with Hydratem8?

Well, just by purchasing one of our hydration tracker bottles, you are automatically helping to reduce your plastic waste output. That’s because you will no longer need to purchase bottled water and so, will cut down on your disposable plastic use. If you previously bought bottled water every day for work or school, that’s potentially at least 20 plastic water bottles you will no longer throw away.

Our bottles are easy to maintain, too. They just need hand washing at the end of the day and you’re good to go the next day. Plus, the handy tracker on the side enables you to monitor your water intake throughout the day and helps to you stay on top of your hydration. And that has major benefits for your health, too.

So, you have your Hydratem8 hydration tracker bottle, but what else can you do to help do your bit for the planet?

Here are some of our handy tips:

  • Recycle paper – newspapers, envelopes, magazines, gift wrap, greetings cards should all be recycled. You can even try recycling at work, school as well as at home. (Although never place anything with personal information into the bin or recycling, this should be shredded)
  • Many plastics can now be recycled and it’s usually stated on it if they can be recycled
  • Glass can be recycled, too. You should check with your local authority whether it needs to be separated from other recyclable items
